Frederick Douglas lived in New Bedford after freeing himself from an American slave plantation.

The Juneteenth Holiday

On June 19th, 1865 word came to enslaved people in Texas that U.S. laws permitting their enslavement had been abolished. The Juneteenth Holiday celebrates this event.
